Methanol is widely used as a solvent in synthetic organic chemistry. It is also used as a solvent in analytical chemistry, especially for HPLC, LC-MS, GC-MS, ICP-MS and spectrophotometry. It is used in the production of biodiesel, formaldehyde and acetic acid. It is also used as fuel, antifreeze, denaturant for ethanol and an energy carrier for fuel cell application.
