Corning offers you a broad and extensive portfolio of vessels across all cell types for every stage of scale up.
Chimeric Antigen Receptor, or CAR T-cells, are genetically modified autologous T-cells that are currently used for immunotherapy to treat certain cancers.
These T-cells are modified to express CARs, which are proteins that allow T-cells to recognize an antigen on targeted tumor cells. Early outcomes from CAR T-cells trials have generated impressive results in patients with refractory or relapsed leukemias and lymphomas 1-2, and research is underway on using CAR T-cells in solid tumors.
CAR T-cells are generated by collecting whole blood from a patient and PBMC (peripheral blood mononuclear cells) are separated and saved while the remaining blood cells and components are returned to the body (leukapheresis). Next, T-cells are enriched from the PBMC population using various methods (e.g., density gradient, size-based fractionation, antibody bead conjugates).
The T-cells are genetically modified with genes of interest, such that they now express CARs, allowing them to target and destroy tumor cells. CAR T-cells are activated and expanded (ex vivo), and in production scale there are additional QA and transportation/delivery steps. Finally, CAR T-cells are infused back to the patient. This may be indirectly to the peripheral circulation or directly to the affected site depending on the tumor type.
T-cell isolation is the process of separating T-cells from other cell types in a biological sample. T-cells can be identified by surface markers like CD3, CD4, and CD8. Cell separation is a critical step in the research process.
Whether you're expanding suspension or adherent cell lines, we offer a full range of cell culture vessels, from 75 mL T-flasks to 50L rocker bags. Our broad and comprehensive portfolio of quality-controlled cell culture vessels allows you to seamlessly scale up with the peace of mind that the products you start with will be suitable for regulated drug manufacturing environments downstream.
Following your scale-up process, it is time to harvest your cells and prepare to move to downstream manufacturing steps or to cryopreserve cells. For cell processing, Corning offers closed system solutions to ensure a contamination-free filtration process. These closed system solutions are ready-to-use, eliminating the time and expense of sourcing and assembling your own closed system. Couple that with sterility assurance and manufacturing compliance, and you have all the tools you need to customize a process to streamline a viable cell collection. For freezing and preserving your cell therapy collection, Corning offers a portfolio of cryogenic storage products, from Corning CoolCell controlled-rate, alcohol-free cell freezing systems to cryogenic vials and bags, all designed to protect your valuable cell lines.
